I have returned from Colorado, and I am beginning to think about putting away the luggage that litters our bedroom floor. Seriously, it is a disaster zone; there are suitcases from our trip to Miami, then Orlando, Orlando again, and most recently Colorado. We started to catch up on laundry...but the washer broke. :) We smiled about it.
My trip to Colorado was wonderful. I had the chance to visit with dear friends and family. Two baby showers were hosted on our behalf (which presented a minor weight problem for me at the airport) and the girls in the family went to the Women of Faith Conference. It was a wonderful weekend - absolutely fantastic. I was privy once again to God's great compassion, which I will tell you all about...tomorrow.
Now that I am home, we need to begin working on our to-do list which includes small tasks like finish the baby's room and order things for our trip like plug adapters, money belts, and a laptop backpack. We also have some paperwork to wrap up, money to order, and a house to clean. For our fellow sojourners, you are way ahead of us as far as getting ready for this trip! Pat yourselves on the back because you inspire me. :)
More to come tomorrow...
p.s. no new news...

Hard

Today is a special day. It is Baby Wyss' ____ month birthday! Sorry for the ambiguity; you know the details and can fill in the blank, but we need to keep identifying information under wraps.
I titled this entry "Hard" because today is hard; it is hard not to be there with our little guy, hard not to be the ones caring for him, hard not to be the ones witnessing his little life unfolding. We know there will be many firsts for us to witness, and we know that soon enough we will be there with him - but today - what we KNOW just doesn't make this waiting any easier.
Please join us in praying that we could be there with him by October 19. We have word that this is highly unlikely, but mountains have been moved on our behalf before...

Bringing Home Baby Wyss and The Great Photo Calendar Project
I cried on the way back from the mailbox again. We received a package from Kayt, our dear friend in Colorado, that contained the most wonderful surprise! We were so humbled by the generous gift enclosed. Kayt, along with 15 other women, have been working tirelessly to create beautiful photo calendar kits to be sold on behalf of Baby Wyss. When I called her and told her it was too much, she sweetly told me that she was "doing it for Baby Wyss." We were and continue to be so touched by this generous gift of time and resources.
I took pictures of some of the months so that you could see how gorgeous the calendars are. These calendars would make wonderful Christmas presents or just a fun gift for yourself! :) They are $15. They are kits, which means that you will get all of the supplies along with step-by-step assembly instructions. The only extra thing you will need is a glue stick and the binding, which Kinko's or Target Copy (or any other printer) will do for about $2.
Now for the challenge...we have 200 kits! Please email me or leave a comment here if you would like one (or more!) of these fabulous calendars; please feel free to share with your family and friends if you think they would be interested. Each kit sold helps us to bring our little guy home.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! We have just been so amazed by the unique and unexpected ways that God continues to provide for us.

I told you they were wonderful, didn't I?

A Day in the Life...Read if You Need a Laugh
I don't know that I would say the other day was a bad day, but I find myself struggling to use just the right adjective to describe last Wednesday in the Wyss household. Crazy? Strange? Weird?
If you need to laugh or at least chuckle, keep reading. :) So, the day started off with a minor clutz injury. As I moved items around in the refrigerator, I thought that I had a firm grasp on the 2 liter of ginger ale; it turns out I didn't. Instead of trying to catch the soon-to-be missile with my other hand or even my arms (the usual means for catching things), I used my leg. Said ginger ale and fragile patella collide with instant pain; subsequent purples and blues cover my knee. I wanted to cry (I know...I'm a wimp), but there was no time for that. I limped out the door to make my morning appointment at the health department for my second Hepatitis B vaccine. As I walked out, Derick asked if I needed the checkbook; with great confidence (and good reason), I said, "no, they take card."
Upon signing in, I saw a very small sign that said "checks only." I took a deep breath as I began to berate myself for not taking the checkbook that had been so graciously offered to me just 10 minutes before. By now, it was 8:58...Derick had a meeting that started at 9...so I called him to see if he could bring the checkbook after his phone call and before the wood floor installers arrived (which was nearly impossible as they were scheduled to arrive by 9:15). (Yes, we thought it would be nice to have a little project of wood floors while we were waiting for news about our baby; little did we know that we would have plenty to do without adding another project.)
Apparently right before I called, UPS called our house to say they were on their way to pick up an item that we needed to return. Guess where the item was?? That's right in the truck - with me - at the health department! So...even though Derick really didn't have the time or ability to step away, he did. I compulsively watched out the window for him so that we could quickly make our exchange. When I saw him, I hurried down the ramp and tripped along the way...guess what I hit? That's right my ginger ale assaulted knee!
I recovered and raced to the truck, flinging open the door and taking out the large box for UPS; I hustled to his car and made the trade. Then I ran back into the health department where I waited patiently for 20 minutes for my shot. As I sat in the waiting room, I read signs in Spanish, I talked to a little boy that was driving his mom crazy, I stared at the wall, and I thought about what I needed to do upon arriving home. By the time I went in for my shot, I had calmed down and recovered my wits (at least partially).
As I headed toward the truck, I congratulated myself - one more thing crossed off of our list of to-dos. I could feel a smile spreading across my face when I looked up to see the door of the truck wide open. Needless to say, my smile disappeared instantly. My overactive imagination began to create crazy scenarios of a break-in when the more rational part of my mind realized that I had been the last one to open that door. That's right - in my haste to, well, hurry, I left the door wide open. This from a woman who double checks that doors are locked and the stove is turned off - even if it wasn't even turned on that day! (I know...minor OCD tendencies).
After a sigh of relief (apparently we can trust the folks in our small town), I began to laugh. I had to laugh. It was only 10, and I'd already had a month worth of mishaps. :) I won't bore you with the details of the rest of the day or week; let's just say it included a tic infestation (we went around the house all day and probably killed hundreds of the blood-sucking boogers) and getting rear-ended - TWICE!
I wanted to tell you this story to distract myself from this insane waiting and to share with you just how convoluted my mind has become (I am embarrassed to admit that wasn't the first time I have left the truck door wide open in a public place). Do you think loss of brain cells is a natural side effect of the adoption process? Here's to hoping those cells regenerate. At least in their absence, a heightened sense of humor seems to have taken up residence. :)
Have a good weekend and please keep praying for our LOI to arrive soon (and for patience).

Our Son!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We have experienced another miracle in the Wyss family! We have "met" the child the Lord has for us! To protect our adoption, we can't share details over the blog, but we have been nearly bursting at the seams to share our news with you! He is precious and so incredibly cute...do I sound like a mom already? :)
A million thanks for your prayers and love. You have all been a tremendous blessing and encouragement to us. Please continue to pray for our little guy, for his caregivers, and for us as we continue to prepare for a baby and an around the world trip!
We are so excited we can hardly stand it!!
We'll keep you posted as to our travel dates. We are still waiting for our letter of invitation, then we'll make our flight reservations, then we will hold our little one in our arms. Praise be to God!

Showered with Love (and baby stuff galore!)
On Saturday morning we had a wonderful celebration for Baby Wyss. It was a sweet time with friends and my mom and sister. We had a delectable spread of food: fruit turnovers, cinnamon twists, bread pudding, egg baked with brie, carrot cake, fruit, cheese, muffins, pizelles, and...I feel full just thinking about it! My sister and her friends as well as the shower hostesses Leah, Jen, and Sarah created quite a culinary treat. We appreciate their laboring into the night and the early morning hours to prepare such a feast; I can say "we" because Derick received two plates of left-overs. :)
Our time together was such an honor. It was a special time to recognize the many miracles the Lord has worked in our journey. I didn't have to taste baby food or sniff candy-filled diapers (thank goodness!), but I did play a bit of Q&A. As our guests arrived, they wrote a question on a slip of paper, then as I opened gifts, others asked the questions. Most were benign; I think that only one made me blush. It was fun to share details about our journey and our upcoming trip. The name question came up a few times...I was very stalwart and resisted the urge to tell all. :) Below you can see our friends, one of the many generous gifts we received, and a message to the baby.
I woke up Saturday morning early; my anticipation for the day overcoming my usual need for sleep. I told everyone it felt a great deal like Christmas. :) Prayers uttered on our behalf were such an encouragement and blessing. We are so grateful for everyone who, like us, can't wait to meet Baby Wyss. Thank you girls for an incredibly special day and for making one of my "nevers" happen. Our hearts are full of joy and gratitude that the Lord has blessed us with each of you.
