Not At All Like Being Under a Microscope

Seriously - having someone come to our home to "approve" us wasn't so bad. :)

Our social worker was very nice; she asked for a quick tour of the house and then we sat around the kitchen table and talked about different issues in adoption. She also asked us some follow up questions to our eight page Life Summaries that we had prepared for her in advance.

It was surprisingly painless and not nearly as invasive as we thought it might be...she didn't open closets, check for dust on the top of our refrigerator, or interrogate us separately (these are all things that others have told us to be prepared for). She loved the dogs and thought they would make excellent playmates for our little one. We are thankful that it was so uneventful (although we have to confess the hours before her arrival were NOT uneventful). Our to-do list was a bit daunting, but finally we came to the point that we decided our ability to parent really wouldn't and shouldn't be based on whether we had dog nose marks on the window or dog paw prints on the perfectly vacuumed carpet.

She'll write her report after she returns from vacation, and then we will file our petition to adopt an orphan with the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services.
